Reflecting on 2023

Tom signs off for 2023 with a look back on his performance.

Where’s the year gone?! It feels like it’s flown by.

I’ve really enjoyed my golf this season, seeing a lot of positive change from a psychological standpoint as well as in my general play. I made an important change 2/3 of the way through the season and under the guidance of a new coach, I managed to see a huge upturn in many parts of my game. Unfortunately, the season felt like it came to an abrupt end and I didn’t get to continue the momentum I was building, but that’s golf (and life!).

I didn’t play as many Challenge Tour events as I had expected due to various reasons, so I ended up playing a bit-part schedule across three tours and therefore not playing enough to really climb the Order of Merit on any particular tour. That was frustrating, but a bit out of my control. The tour I played mostly on, the Clutch Tour, saw me have some top 10 finishes and various consistent results.

Moving in to 2024, I have a nice off-season still ahead of me to implement some positive changes with the help of my coaching team. I will start the 2024 season sometime in March I would say, and will play a few events that act as qualifiers for Challenge Tour events later in the year. Aside from this, I will most likely commit myself to the Clutch Tour and see if I can continue to string some results together and get into the top three places on the season-long Order of Merit to move back on to the Challenge Tour. Also, there will be Q-School again at the end of next season, but all in all, there’s plenty of opportunity ahead. Whilst I am not playing on the highest-level tour I have played on in the past, I have proof that my golf is good enough to get me out on to the DP World Tour (the top Tour in Europe). I just need to do a better job of playing good golf when I do get back there!

That’s me signing off for 2023. I would like to say a huge thank you to you all at IFGL for your continued support. Without great partnerships like ours, I wouldn’t be able to continue to pursue my dreams, so thank you - I truly am grateful for the support.

I wish everyone and their families a prosperous New Year!
