Peter's October 2023 update

In this exciting update, Peter talks about his recent feats and plans for the future.

After the WASZP UK national championships at the start of July, I brought the boat back home to the Isle of Man and got back to my training. I had a quiet start to the month with no wind and then a good couple of weeks practicing the new skills I learnt and the areas I needed to improve.

I then went to the 420 nationals at the end of August with Sebby Bailey - this was Seb’s first event in the 420 class - and I was returning having not sailed for a year. All things considered, we had a great week, coming away with 20th overall as well as landing a couple of top ten finishes.

For the first weekend in September, I travelled to Scotland for the Scottish WASZP National Championships. I had a poor first day with a couple of uncharacteristic mistakes, which left me in 7th place after the first day. The second day came in with champagne conditions (it felt like we could’ve been in the Mediterranean!) and six races to be sailed. I had a good start placing 4th in the first race, even with a stoppage to fix a breakage. Then I had a triplet of seconds being agonizingly close to winning and then getting two bullets (wins) in the last two races. This left me lying in second overall at the end of the event, which I was really happy with!

At the start of September, I received exciting news that I had been accepted into the U25 Athena WASZP training team. This is an amazing opportunity, giving me amazing coaching and support to further my career. I attended my first training weekend on the first weekend of October and we had two great days of training. I cannot wait to attend my next training weekend, which will be in two weekend’s time (4/5 November)!

My next event will happen this weekend (28/29 October) which is the WASZP UK end of seasons at Rutland water. I am really looking forward to the close racing with an entry of 30 boats from around the country all congregating for two great days of racing.
