The 5th anniversary of our MBO

It’s been 5 years since we announced the management-led buy-out of RL360.

On 14 November 2013, we announced that the Royal London Group (RLG) had agreed with Vitruvian Partners to support the MBO of Royal London 360°. As of that date, the company left RLG and became known as RL360.

It was a key moment in our company’s history.

Announcing the deal, RL360 Chief Executive David Kneeshaw told staff: “The vision for our company is to grow and expand into new markets – as we already planned to do – but at a greater pace.”

And there’s no denying this has happened. The last 5 years have been a period of huge growth and change for RL360.

Here are some of our key achievements since the MBO:

  • We have grown in staff numbers - in the 5 years since our MBO our staff numbers have nearly doubled from 209 to 359.
  • We have carried out 2 major acquisitions and announced plans for another – Clerical Medical International in December 2015 and Ardan International in December 2016. The deal to acquire Friends Provident International was announced last year.
  • We have opened 2 new offices - since the MBO in 2013 we’ve opened offices in Malaysia and Uruguay.
  • We’ve doubled the number of plans we administer - from 36,500 in 2013 to over 77,000 today.
  • We’ve taken our applications online – we launched a desktop online application system in 2016 for Quantum, plus a Quantum online app in 2017. This was rolled out to Oracle in 2018.
  • We’ve processed a huge amount of premiums – more than 1 million (1,062,577 to be precise) since November 2013.
  • New business levels have almost doubled – at the end of 2013 they were at 5,228 while we should be on course to hit 10,000 by the end of 2018.
  • We’ve built up a social media following – we’ve gone from zero to 1,572 Facebook followers, 2,900 LinkedIn followers, 380 Twitter followers and 262 subscribers to our YouTube channel (we have seven brand videos on YouTube and the latest video had 140,425 views).
  • Our Customer Services call centre has been pretty busy on the phones – we’ve answered 249,259 calls in the last 5 years.
